Dining out has become an eye-opening experience now that restaurant chains are required to include calorie counts on their menus. Unfortunately, a new study by nutrition researchers has found that as many as 1 in 5 restaurants are underestimating the number of calories in their dishes. The offenders included Olive Garden, Chipotle Mexican Grill, On the Border, Outback Steakhouse and Boston Market.
In one case, an order of chips and salsa from On the Border was found to contain 1,000 calories more than stated on the menu. Salads were among the most often underestimated dishes, an unfortunate circumstance for dieters. A wedge salad with bleu cheese dressing at Outback Steakhouse was found to contain over 1,000 calories despite being reported on the menu as 659 calories.
